Dr. Khiani Mortimer is a Gold Coast local who was raised in Northern NSW and has always had a strong passion caring for sick or injured animals. Graduating from James Cook University (Townsville) in 2020, Khiani returned to the area where she continued to develop her skills in racetrack and pleasure horses. Khiani has a particular interest in equine medicine and reproduction. In her spare time she enjoys playing touch football and indoor netball, taking the boat out on the river or with her 2 labradors.

Dr. Shanya Canavan was born in Kentucky, USA but moved back to Australia at 4 years old with her family and grew up in Victoria. With a love of horses, she has been riding since the age of 8, owned horses since the age of 14 and enjoys retraining off the track thoroughbreds. She finished high school in Victoria and completed a Bachelor of Science majoring in Animal Health & Disease at The University of Melbourne. She then studied Veterinary Science at James Cook University in Townsville before graduating in 2022. Her and her partner made the big move south to the lovely Northern Rivers region where she joined the Byron Bay Equine Veterinary team. She has a special interest in equine dentistry, reproduction & geriatric care. On her weekends you will find her either out riding her horse Goose or with her wife and two dogs at the beach.

Dr. Kevin Squire comes from a large family background of cattle and sheep stations out west, having spent most of his youth working with animals on these properties he decided to pursue a career in this. After graduating vet school, he worked 1 year in large animal, cattle and equine practice. He then went back to academic research and clinical practice in the United States. After 10 years overseas, Kevin returned from the United States in 1991 where he worked as a partner in equine, predominantly racetrack practice in Brisbane and the Gold Coast for 8 years. Kevin then started the Gold Coast Equine practice in 1999 while living (and surfing) at Burleigh Heads. To escape the crowds Kevin moved to Byron Bay & commenced the Byron Bay Equine practice in 2015. A passion for remote travel has seen him following Genghis Khan across Uzbekistan, avoiding Grizzly Bears in Kamchatka Russia, sailing around Cape Horn, hitch hiking in mid winter in northern Japan, denied entry at a remote mountain crossing from Bolivia into Peru (thank heavens for a spare US $20 bill), denied entry into Kyrgyzstan Central Asia at midnight and hitching a ride on a motorbike at midnight in Tehran Iran. After 50 years of loving horses, horse people, an outdoors working environment, surfing, remote travel & loving life Kevin hopes to continue this for his next 50 years.
